“Tibetan Identity” Book Project:

This is the first time in five years that Books For Children (BFC) is doing a fund raising drive and asking you for your kind support. With your kind support BFC has been able to create five children’s books and donate more than 12,000 books to the Tibetan refugee children in exile so far.

BFC is happy to announce that it is in the production process of its 6th children’s book “Tibetan Identity” for the Tibetan refugee children in exile, and it will be a collaboration project with the Department of Education at CTA (Central Tibetan Administration) and the Tibetan Government in Exile in Dharamsala, India.

Cover“Tibetan Identity” is an urgently important book not only for the young Tibetan refugee children but for everyone. It will create a dialogue with its readers about their identity, roots, heritage, pride and integrity. Because of the devastating political situation of Tibet, it is even more critically important for the Tibetans to continue to address what their identity means to themselves and their culture.

There are approximately 6.5 million Tibetans living around the world today, and what is keeping them together is the presence of H.H.The Dalai Lama. Tibetans from different backgrounds (such as the Tibetans inside of Tibet, the Tibetan refugees from India, Nepal, Europe, USA, etc.) do not necessarily get along and very often they get into conflicts. As His Holiness is getting older, Tibetans must find a way to try to unite together. This “Tibetan Identity” project is to serve that purpose.

The book will raise questions that are not talked about in the daily lives of the Tibetans, such as “What does it mean to be Tibetan?,” “What make one Tibetan?,” “Is it important to be Tibetan?,” “If so, why?” “What are the attributes of being a Tibetan?” and so on. The book will challenge our minds and inspire the readers to explore.

The copies of the book will be distributed to thousands of Tibetan children in India, Nepal and Bhutan, and hopefully Europe and USA as well. There will be a “Tibetan Identity Awareness Day” and all the children and students will gather and discuss the topic and examine the issue deeply. This discussion will be repeated in their school and community programs among not only children but in all communities.

Last year I proposed to collaborate with the CTA to create this extremely important book, “Tibetan Identity.” They loved the idea and agreed to do so; however, they have not been able to receive any funds for the project. I’ve been told that it is difficult for them to receive funds to produce educational books. It is hard to believe, but that is the reality of the current situation.

We Need Your Help:

It has been five years since BFC asked for your help. We need your support to make this project happen, and appreciate every penny. Every dollar will go towards this book project, and I never take a salary or labor fees from your donations. The funds will be used for the book production, such as book design by a professional book designer, translation and editing by professionals, printing, distribution, etc.

Please kindly consider donating because this book will certainly empower the refugee children and their futures, and you have the power to make it happen. This book will be printed in Tibetan and English along with my beautiful original drawings, and I guarantee you that you will be so proud to be a big part of such an important book!
